Why Grace Matters!

Why Grace Matters!

It’s ironic that we live in a society that is probably the least religious and most secular, but full of condemnation and unforgiveness. I was reading an article about this in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and it really made me wonder…hmm! Do we need more grace?

When you hear the word “grace,” the first thing that probably comes to mind is “Amazing Grace” or saying your “Grace” before a meal. I define grace as allowing yourself and others to be imperfect without condemnation; however, that does not mean being unaccountable for one’s actions.

I would love to see a world where people give more grace to themselves and others regardless of their relationship. I have found that people will condemn others for doing something, but when they or their loved one does the same thing, they make excuses. Is that fair? Answer: No! I also have seen others be overly hard on themselves (I have been guilty of this behavior). Although criticizing oneself may push you to do better, it could also be counterproductive. I think you get the message! Now let talk about why grace matters.

Why Grace Matters

1. Provides Freedom — Frees one from the bondage of condemnation of self and others and gives one the opportunity to get things right and not be burdened with the wrath of others.

2. Can Move Forward – Provides opportunity to move forward in a positive way without the constant weight of past mistakes and allows one to thrive and be productive.

3. Reminds us of humanity – Keeps us in touch with our humanity and imperfectness and allows us to not be afraid to make or take on challenges knowing that it is not how we start, but how we finish.

Reflection

Take a moment to reflect on ways that you have been too hard on yourself or others and how you can extend more grace! So what do you think?

How to Give More Grace

To give more grace, we need to be: more compassionate, more understanding, and more human. Don’t expect more from others than we expect from ourselves. Be self-reflective. Realize that none of us is perfect, and that is OK!

Grace=Freedom

Let’s not just say grace or sing “Amazing Grace,” but let’s give grace!

Remember Greatness Awaits You!

Definately an excellent read. I am learning to do more of this in 2018. And I’m going to include patience on my list as well. More deep breaths for me:)
